Upper-Level Cantilevers Solved

The Ischebeck Bridging Beam offers a safe, efficient and cost-effective way to solve irregular upper-level cantilevers in high-rise construction.

Irregular cantilevers can pose a challenge in high-rise construction if they extend 4’ (about 1.2 m) or more. If such cantilever occurs at an upper level on a high-rise, building shoring from the ground up is neither feasible, economic or safe.

The Ischebeck bridging beam (Figure 1 above) consists of two or more 225 aluminum stringer beams stacked on top of each other and connected with our friction clamp. This increases the bending stiffness on the composite beam and results in higher load-carrying capacity.

Irregular position for balconies on a high-rise building is one application for the bridging beam. Fintry Construction is making use of it for their ONE Water Street project in Kelowna (Figure 2 below). Balconies on the towers are positioned irregularly from floor to floor.

The Ischebeck fly-tables for the typical floors were designed to accommodate all balconies (Figure 3). No table modifications needed to be done during the construction of the tower. Shoring support tables (Figure 5) using the bridging beam were put in on the floor below (Figures 3 & 4) when balconies appeared on a floor, and no balconies aligned underneath. They first supported the fly-table and subsequently the re-shoring (Figure 4).

The Ischebeck bridging beam allowed for efficient and safe construction. As a beneficial side effect, the painters were able to use the support tables to paint the underside of the balconies (Figure 3), making their work easier and safer as well.
